Mariko Mori

Mariko Mori is a Japanese video and a photographic artist. The juxtaposition of Eastern mythology with Western culture is a common theme in Mori's works, often through layering photography and digital imaging.

Ive always been conflicted about performance art, or even art in the form of dress (goth, etc), but lately I am getting the concept. Its amazing to be able to look at someone who is elaborately dressed and in a sense acting out thier character. (The experience I had at Circus on 4/2 helped that, ill blog about that later!)  Its nice to see something out of the ordinary, a product of someones creative mind. Society seems to think that being conservative is the way to go, but I think that is just a form of control over expression.

Images like this always make me wonder, "What the fuck is going on in thier head?" Well its simple. They are expressing thier mind in physical ways. Images such as these, you don't see much in everyday life. But at the same time its so intriguing to look at and makes you think. Art is about expression, and you cant make a bigger statement then wearing your expression and allowing all to see a living work of art. Amazing stuff!!
