Musings from Wednesday's lecture..

In the spirit of "A picture is worth a thousand words", I will let the images do most of the speaking (Ive contracted some sort of cold/flu and I don't feel well at all, in other words). Images I have put here are ones I found interesting, after researching the painters and art we covered in Wednesday's lecture.  ~Profitez-en!

                                                                     Chartes Cathedral

One of the subjects we studied that I found very visually appealing was the Chartres Cathedral. I look at it and I just marvel in the idea that this was built by hand.

The inside of this place is amazing! No wonder people have profound spiritual experiences in cathedrals like this, everything is completely intense!
You would think this was a CGI image. Completely Astounding!

The Andolfini Portrait

The Andolfini Portrait painted by Jan van Eyck in 1434 was another piece that left an impression on me. Maybe its purely aesthetical, but I find this very visually stimulating. It's mind boggling to think a person can produce something so.. vivid, near flawless. Perfect use of shading, color, everything.

Jackson Pollock
~There was something strangely interesting in Jackson Pollock's work. I looked at some of his  "traditional style" works and his "on the floor canvas" work, and I actually enjoy both. I would actually like to see the entire "Pollock" movie, I think it would be very interesting!

To me, this seems very graffiti like, just the whole vibe of it. This type of art work has me not beg the question on what Jackson was thinking while painting this, but rather, how is this making me think. There are no boundaries here, completely free expression!

I find this interesting for the same reasons stated above. I have no idea whats going on here and thats what makes it so appealing. It leaves me free to interpret it in any way. Like distinguishing shapes in clouds, its different for everyone.

  1. I like the last one a lot. It's hard to understand, so it makes me more interested in it. I think I see a bull in there somewhere or maybe a forest, but who knows? :P
